A Found Treasure (Maybe)

Hello, dearies :)

I've been trying to clean out stuff.  You know how that goes....UGH is the word.  How did I get all this stuff!  Where did it come from?  Did it have babies while I was away?  Ha!

While cleaning out, I found the Sunwashed Log Cabin Quilt, by Lynette Jensen.  I had started this quilt a very, long, long time ago :)  I don't think Thimbleberries fabrics exist anymore, do they?
Would you believe I started piecing a few bunch of squares by HAND?  What was I thinking??
What I thought I might do is to continue on with the way I started and it's gonna be a long process.  When I get tired of it, I'll switch to something else.
There are many ways I can put this all together.  So for the moment, I'll be stitching and stacking squares.
The quilt measures 84 by 98 inches.  Quite an undertaking :)  Will see how it goes.
Until later...

Another Football Sunday

Hello, dearies :)

Moving right along....This sweater is just a fun piece.

The baby alpaca is so soft to work with.

I'm almost done with the body of the sweater and then pick up the sleeves.

The pattern is copyrighted as Patons 2001, Upside-Downers Child's Sizes 2 to

Adult's Extra Large, with very easy instructions.  As long as you get the gauge, it works!
I compared Paton's yardage vs baby alpaca yardage.  I'm hopeful that what I had in my stash will be enough. (fingers crossed)

I love the 11 stitch band because the fronts can be changed to another 11 stitch, band design - whatever floats
your boat.

What's really great is that I don't have to sew anything, except to sew on the buttons.

Hope you are enjoying the day :)
Until later...

Happy Tuesday

Hello, dearies :)

Finally, trying to put things together, fabric and wool.

DH is getting ready for his poker game so this means "pizza night!"
Yay and yum
AND
I get the TV to myself.  LOL
So, later I'll be knitting.

The picture doesn't show the colors very well, but the green wool from Knit Picks called Andean Treasure which is 100% baby alpaca, color Lagoon, does match all three fabrics.  Sweaters first, dresses second. (Hopefully)

The sweater I started before, I scrapped because I would have to add the collar later, so I frogged it and started all over again.
I like to keep it really simple,  by not having to stitch most of it together.  LOL

Hopefully, I will get a bunch of knitting done!
Until later...

The knitting fool

Hello, dearies :)

Well, I confess, I haven't done much knitting in a while.  Yep, outtamyheadknits, has not been knitting in a while. Oy!  LOL
I've been devoting my time to weaving and making dish towels.  It's now on hold for a bit.

So when I was cleaning out a spot recently, I found a few balls of Knit Picks, Andean Treasure, which is 100% baby alpaca.
Yummy, yummy, yummy!
The color is Lagoon.  I'm not sure, but that color is not advertised anymore, but she has a bunch more colors.

Since I didn't have a pattern per say, I selected a pair of circular needles from Knit Picks (my favorite needles) and knit a small swatch.
After I swatched, I got 5 stitches and 6 rows to an inch on a size 5 needle.

So, with this in mind, I printed out a basic pattern for a 25" chest based on my swatch.  I chose to make a raglan sleeved cardigan sweater from the top down.  I don't enjoy sewing sweaters, not my favorite thing (LOL), but this will eliminate sewing the shoulder shaping for the most part.
I just love raglans.
If anyone needs help with making a swatch with favorite yarn and needles to get a gauge, let me know!
Back to the drawing board. :)
Until later....

Costa Rica

Hello, dear readers :)

Some where in Costa Rica !
Looking from a window seat.

The pool is just amazing how it  snakes around.

Trees are unreal!

Headed for Tortuga Island.

The bird didn't take to Jim's hairspray. LOL
We had a wonderful time :)

When it's cold, weave!

Hello, dear readers :)

Well, I've gotten so involved with weaving, where has the time gone?  My first set is the blue one which is ready for hemming, washing and drying.  I finished my second set of towels and now I'm on the third set!

Different methods but still a lot of fun.  But my favorite is the waffle weave.
My thread choice is from Cotton Clouds which is just wonderful to work with.  I signed up for their rigid heddle dishcloths/towels.  So far I've received January's.

I've been working on my new set with three shuttles.  Interesting.

Not too shabby, right?

This one, I modified the design, making  one stripe up the left side.  Lots of fun and maybe I'll finish this one tonight.
Hope you're all staying warm.
Until later...

There is a Santa Clause

Hello, dear readers :)

I'm in seventh heaven!

In 2012, I found this book at hhtatting.com.  I was thrilled.

Jan Stawasz did beautiful tatting.
This was his second book.  Then I learned there was a first book as well.  Hmmmm

I looked all over to try to find his first book, but to no avail.  It was out of print.  I managed to get his email address.  So I asked him if he was going to have a second publication of his first book.  He told me to get on his list.  Never heard a word.

So, I waited and waited, again scouring the internet to try to find the book.  Then alas, I had read that he past away in 2013.
How sad :(
I thought, that was it, forget the book.

Fast forward to today.  I happened to get a notice of new items at the Handy Hands Tatting site and what do you think!

His first book was there!

I have no idea how many tatters out there will pounce on his book.
I'm happy to say that I did not receive a back order notice.
I'm sure it will be a BIG seller for all tatting fans.
So............
Doin' the happy dance.
I can't wait to see some more of his beautiful work.
Until later.....

The New Year

Hello, dear readers :)
Have you contemplated your new year's resolutions?
I decided to get back into my box, sock box, that is.
So without further ado, one pair of socks is done and another one started.

I was in a rush the previous year when making socks.
It took me only 3 days to make the last pair to have enough to go around.

So, now I know, there's no excuse for SOCKS this year. LOL

Just have to find a suitable box to put them in with a bar of lavender soap which makes them smell divine, while working on a bunch of them.   My thought is to make enough socks, first!
Then work on my weaving with dishtowels.

I will be hopeful for the new year!
Until later...
