Try, try again

Hello, dear readers :)

Well, I got the latest inkle off the loom.  I played with it a bit, trying to use a pickup stick and changing the design.  It was kind of interesting.

What I really want to do now is make the alphabet and numbers.  It's not as easy as it looks.  So I wound up with a dark lavender and white crochet cotton.  Oh well, live and learn.

So, I'll continue on this one until I'm done.  What really ticked me off was that I tried to warp it four times and when weaving was under way, I noticed that I did not repeat the pattern.  UGH!
So I guess I'll find a use for this one.  Maybe a small basket.  Not sure yet.

Hope you are all having a wonderful day!
Until later...

Another inklett is born

Hello, dear readers :)

Well, I've set up another inklett to work on.  Here is the key.

Doesn't it remind you of ribbon candy?  Do they still make that any more?
I can remember it was so delicate and delicious as well.

I started this inkle with the intention of not pulling so tightly and when I got a couple of rows going I thought the better of it.
Something to do while watching football games.

I'll see how long it will take me to finish this one.  I feel a basket coming on! LOL

How about a fish fry?

Hello, dear readers :)

Yesterday the weather was just wonderful after our rain storm.  Fantastic comes to mind.  Our huge party had a great time, at least 50 people or more were in attendance.  The fish was out of this world!
Freshly caught by Dottie on the lake.

There were a ton of people there and the homemade desserts were to die for!
We must have gained  10 5 pounds just looking at the food.  LOL
WTG!

PS inkle

Hello, dear readers.

I played with this lavender basket.  I'm still trying to get it it square.

 Now, some observations.

This inkle was about 90 inches in length and 1 inch wide.  I cut  6 strips for the base 7" long.  If I make them about 8" I could have a third row.  I had only snippets of the inkle left after I put on the handle.  So that means I'm going to have to make two inkles either the same or a contrast.  Anything goes :)

I'm thinking that I could put lavender potpourri in some netting.
Not sure yet.  It has many possibilities.

I'm having fun.  Hope you are too :)
Until later...

A tisket, a tasket, how about an inkle basket?

Hello, dear readers :)
We managed to stay dry when the storm hit.  We got 5 inches of rain!  And, boy did we need it.

The next step is  mow, mow, and mow. LOL

So yesterday evening I played with making an inkle basket.

The red and white basket was my first test piece.  The inkle strip was about 1/2 inch and didn't know what I was doing :)  But, that's normal.

So after I put the red/white one together, I started to make a paper prototype.  I measured the width which was .75" and cut my strips for the base at 7".  Now to figure out the weaving part. Hmmm

I still have a ways to go on how to perfect this little basket.

Until later...

Friday, rain, rain and more rain - woopie

Today was another doctor day.  LOL

I guess, it's been doctor's week.  Off to the eye doctors today.

What a day.  Guess what?  I have a bottom eyelash that is growing  inward and gonna grow into my eyeball.  Ever heard of that?  It's not causing any problems at the moment, but my eye doctor will be happy to remove it when it becomes a problem.  No detached retinas or whatever, glaucoma no. New prescription for contacts, ever so slightly changed, she tweaked my contacts and glasses as a back up.  Wonderful!  So now that's done.  I'm tired.

Tomorrow I'll work on something, not too sure what though LOL.  I haven't touched the Sugar Plum sweater yet, except for casting on  for the sleeves.

It's been raining all day long, sometimes really hard.  We're thinking about getting a boat and store it outside when it rains like this.  We need waders.  But, we're not complaining, we desperately need the rain.

Just stuck  chicken breasts, rice, and mushroom soup in a casserole and let it cook. The chicken breasts come out very tender, complete with rice and "gravy" - very good.

Tomorrow we're going to a fish fry party, and hope that the weather is okay!  Have to remember to take my camera!

Until later...

Sugar Plum

Hello, dear readers :)

Today was doctor day.  Oy
You might as well plan the whole day for this, right?

My appointment was at 9:30 am for a full physical.  I had some surprises though - over a certain age, you get an EKG yearly.  Okay!  Woo hoo! They checked my ticker and that didn't deviate from the first one taken last year.

Hmmmmm.  The next surprise after going from head to toe and inside and out, into every nook and cranny, like butter finding its way into an English muffin, you had to answer stupid questions deemed by Medicare!
Have YOU done this?  Unbelievable!

Questions like, do you have carpeting?  How about a night light, do you climb any steps? and so forth.  Then another test to draw a shape and draw a clock.  How about remembering apple,  table and penny.  Then an eye chart?  Do WHAT???

Are you kidding me?????

Then the last thing on the list was SURPRISE!!!  You're getting a flu shot AND a pneumonia shot!  Wow!!!!  Totally mind blowing!

Anyway, because of a good deal of anxiety today,  I didn't get very far on my sugar plum, just the cast on, well, maybe later tonight.  (I lost the px of the cast on, sorry :( )

Until later ...

Sugar Plum Sweater

Hello, dear readers :)

Well, I found a project that needs to be finished.  I started this way back when and it's mentioned in a previous blog.

Just have to finish the sleeves and put on the band.  I don't have much wool left.  I'm going to be hopeful.

This sweater was designed by Patricia Roberts and is called "sugar plum."  Will see how long the sleeves take me.  I've decided to leave them plain.

Have a great Tuesday.

Oh me

Hello, dear readers :)

I'm glad it's Monday.

What a mess I had with this latest inkle.  I know now, not to use a rayon thread.
I started off okay and got a few rows woven and then disaster!  Some how I got a black thread caught in the middle of the inkle and I couldn't move it.  Believe me, I tried.

I did manage to save a small piece. Waaaaaa.....okay it's over with.  Back to the drawing board.  I think I'll leave my inkles to another day.  I'll have to find something different to do.

Anyway, until later...

Sunday Football

Hello, dear readers :)

Well, I finished another inklett.  Once it is warped, it really goes fast.

I tried to match the colors of thread to the fabric.  I have an idea in mind, but I'm still working on it.

So now that this one is off the loom, I'm going to thread it up again.  So back to the drawing board for a design.  I have a cute green fabric with ladybugs that I'd like to match up.  Unfortunately I don't have black crochet thread, but I do have it in rayon.  I'm  wondering how that would work up.  For my next one, I think I may double the pattern to get a wider band.  I'll have to play with it :)

Hope your Sunday is pleasant.
Until later...

Ooops

Hello, dear readers :)

Sorry for the upside down graphic.

Another Inkle

Hello, dear readers :)

It's really nice out today and much cooler with no humidity.  It's a day to play.

This weekend I've been working on a colorway for another inkle.  It was a lot of fun designing and now I have to warp the loom.  It appears it's going to take me a while :) but no matter.

I'm using Bernat and Aunt Lydia's size 10 cotton until it's gone!

Hope you are having a great weekend.
Until later...

Another Inkle

Hello, dear readers :)

I managed to warp my loom this morning.  I'm using the same pattern for both but with different colors/brands and the same number of threads.

The inkle that looks like a watermelon in the last post is made with Bernat Handicrafter Crochet Thread, 3 oz/85 grams at 371 yards.  I found that this thread has a greater sheen and weaves up plumper than regular crochet cotton.

So for this inkle I used Aunt Lydia's Crochet Cotton size 10. It's actually a smaller width than the watermelon and no real sheen!

Live and learn :)

The color selection for the new inkle is really a dark lavender, light lavender, and cream.  I noticed that if I were to use a more vibrant color like red, the center motifs would have a dot of color instead of receding into the pattern.  Make sense?

I've got a ways to go, but by this evening it should be done.  I don't have enough of the Bernat's cotton, so I'm going on the hunt.  I'd eventually like to buy 2 of every color.

Hope your Monday is going well.

Until later...

It's Football Season Again

Hello, dear readers :)

Yep, football season is upon us and that means we watch football all-day-long, evenings too.

Sunday finds me relaxing  a bit.   I'm still working on the lavender and cream band.  It's not long enough yet.

I've prepared my draft for the next inkle as a companion to the one above.  Hopefully, I'll have this smaller one done and off the loom, quick!  I rather enjoy threading the inkle loom.  I don't know why :)  But when I'm done with the threading preparations, weaving really goes quickly.

I'm waiting for our dinner.   Sushi rice, chicken breasts, and a can of Campbell's mushroom soup all in a casserole for about one hour.  I forgot to add sliced onions (my bad).  It smells divine though.

Hope your weekend was great!

Until later...

It's official, it's an inkle

Hello, dear readers :)

It was a really nice day today.  Hope everyone enjoyed it :)

So I finished my first real inkle and now I'm trying to come up with a pattern for a purse.

With the first real inkle off the loom, this morning, I threaded my inkle with a simple pattern and maybe I'll make a larger inkle in the same weight and color for another purse.  I'm not sure yet.  But, it took me a while to set it up.  However, the previous colored weaving was done really quick.  I couldn't believe it.  We were watching the football game and when the game was over, I was done with the band!  Eureka!!!!!

I'm still looking for an outlet for crochet cotton.  I'm going to need lots. LOL
Hope you are having a great day and a really good weekend!

Until later...

It takes patience.

Hello, dear readers :)
I finally got it, after reading and reading and reading.  So now I know how to set up the inkle loom with colored threads and it's working.  Yay.

I still haven't figured out the length that I need to make this px not blurry.  I'll try it again later.  This time I've used Bernat Handicrafter crochet thread and it has a nice sheen to it, size 10.  Have to scout around to find where I can buy a bunch of it.  So, one real inkle being worked on.

Hope you are all having a great day.

Until later...

Sick Puppy

Hello, dear readers :)

Hope your day has gone well.

For the past couple of days our Max wasn't himself.  He started sneezing and had an inverted cough, that I thought was asthma  (dogs don't get asthma), so the vet said.   He kept sneezing and his nose kept running.

We went to our wonderful vet today to see what he had to say.  Our veterinarian is really the nicest doctor we've ever had.   Everything turned out okay.  But Max had his temperature taken and it was on the rise, so he got a shot. Tomorrow I'm going to start his morning with a dose of Clavamox.  Poor baby.  He likes to sleep on his back and gets in some pretty weird positions :)
He's kinda zonked now.

So for the moment, I put my loom away and picked up my tatting.  I had to rip out a whole row because I was making mistakes.  Ah, it's sooooo slow going.

So maybe I'll be working with my tatting and taking care of my dog for a couple of days.  Just want to make sure he's okay!
So, everyone, have a wonderful evening.
Until later...

Labor Day

Hello, dear readers :)

We thought that it was really going to rain here today, but it didn't. :(

We really, really need the rain.  All my flowers have crisped.

So I've been working on my "inkles" and have an idea in mind.  We'll see what develops.

Today I did a little weaving.  I"m using size 10 crochet cotton.

This loom makes about 2 yards, so I'm not sure how much I'm going to need for this project yet.
Hope you are all having a wonderful Labor Day.
Until later...

Happy Labor Day

Hello, dear readers :)
Hope you have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!
It's really hot here today.  Good day to weave.

My pxs did not come out very well, but I'll try to take another px when it's off the loom.  I am thinking that I want to make a bag out of this mess and use the inkle loom to make my fabric.  So, I'm hoping.

There are so many combinations that you can do, it just boggles my mind.  I managed to get a few cards to work with and learning how to manipulate them.  It's amazing how the designs are born.  I didn't write anything down, I suppose I should have, but with this card pack I was supposed to use 12  cards but ended up with a mess and down to 5.  Oh well!
Back to the drawing board!
Until later...
