Football Sunday

Hello, dear readers :)

It has taken me two days of fussing with this particular dish towel.  Finally!!!!
I had trouble winding the warp. Broke a thread or two. But,  I've managed to get the hem done and almost ready to begin the pattern.

I'm hopeful!
The cotton thread is from "Cotton Clouds" and it's really beautiful to work with.  She offers many patterns/kits for the rigid heddle and beautiful colors too!

Until later...

Waffle Weave Towels

Hello, dear readers!

I finally finished my first set of hand towels.  I love how the pattern worked out.  They are a generous 28" long, too!

Getting ready to make the next set.

Wishing you well.
Merry Christmas

Ho, Ho, Ho

Hello, dear readers :)

Well, I have been cleaning out stuff and found so much more to do.  UGH!

Looking forward to  my  Cotton Clouds order.  They have been so very helpful.

I can't wait.

What a difference a really good thread can make - something so beautiful.  Tried to use crochet cotton, but I'm not satisfied.

Hope you are getting your Christmas organized - it's coming quick!

Sunday Blues

Hello, dear readers :)

Tisk, tisk, and woe is me......I ordered this beautiful cotton thread from Cotton Clouds and warped my loom to make a set of dishtowels.  I started off with a 1 and 1/2" hem and then started the pattern.  It was really very easy and I was merrily on my way.  Then, disaster hit.  I noticed that there was a knot in my warping.  I didn't think too much about it, UNTIL I was this far (below) into my pattern and noticed a snag.

I tried to repair it.  The strand with the knot was very loose which caused a definite snag and a loose stitch.  Eeeeeeeek!!!!!

I tried to re-wrap the loom, forget it.  My pick up stick got stuck in the warping and after some hesitation I chopped it off the loom....Eeeeeeeeeeek!

Back to the drawing board.  Oh, me :(  Guess I'll have to order some more of this cotton, as it was really wonderful to work with. What a mess.  But at least I can do the pattern, so that's okay :)

Until later...

Ah ha!

Hello, dear readers :)

Okay, so far so good!
It's working out really well.  Used sock yarn!  One skein of about 400 yards each for both the warp and weft.  Was very easy to thread.  I can't wait to get it off the loom.  Have so more ideas.

Until later...

Almost a disaster

Hello, dear readers :)

I'm happy to tell you that my granddaughter was en route from the Albany, NY area on a train bound to NYC at the time of the THE train accident.  She was not on this particular train but the one behind it.

She made it to Pratt Institute okay and was in her dorm, after they were diverted by bus.  We were so worried and so thankful at the same time.  We are saying prayers for those who were caught in the disaster.  Our hearts go out to them and their families and we share blessings with everyone.

Putting that aside, I did manage to put my new loom together.  She is so sweet and ready to go.  I don't know what to make first!  Thank you, Pam :)

I did manage to use my Cricket to make a sample.  But I wasn't satisfied with it.

So tomorrow I'll play with it again.

The actual new loom from Ashford is 28" in length which is capable of doing place mats, towels, and shawls!  I'll have a lot of thinking to do with this new loom since I've never done anything on this loom yet.  The threads are to die for.  Woo hoo.

Loom is ready to go

Just to thank my DD for my new loom.  It's all put together and ready to do.

This is an Ashford 28# loom so I can do quite a lot of things with it.  Got some cotton yarn in today and ready to go.

Happy Thanksgiving

Hello, dear readers :)

Hope you all are enjoying Thanksgiving weekend.

A few things going on now.  CLEANING!

It's a dirty word, right? LOL

Mr. Inkle is on standby.  Finally figured out how this works.  Took me a while.  I think I understand. (?) LOL

I received a shipment from Halcyon Yarn to make some placemats.  Let me tell you that the thread is sweet. Juicy.

Now, for the surprise that hasn't happened yet, another loom!  Still waiting for some parts and then I can put it together.  It's a floor loom!

Doesn't look like much, does it?  But it will make 28" in width...so, so nice.

I also ordered two more towel kits and hopefully it won't take me too long to make them as Christmas gifts.

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Have a blessed day.

Until later...

Get out the Bengay!

Hello, dear readers :)

If anyone could have told me my muscles would be screaming today, I would have ignored it.  It's worse today.  You bet.

So with what energy I had left I managed to warp my Cricket and have been playing with a pinwheel pattern.  It's not perfect yet.

I'm ready to take a nap now.  Muscles are in over drive.  Phew!

Until later...

A very long journey

Hello, dear readers :)

Well, I am finally home after a month of visiting and 6 days on the road.  I hate to fly.

My daughter is on her way home to NY after bringing me home.  I know I feel like I'm wiped out and she's on jet lag besides.

It was a great trip and wouldn't you know that my pxs didn't come out, except for 2.  My daughter has a bunch of pxs that I'll have to wait for, so I can post some.

This px is going to Rhinebeck, NY fiber fair (fantastic) over the Hudson River.

I did receive one part of an order that when I get organized, I'll post them.  I have so much to do....

Need some sleep.

Until later...

Not enough warmth

Hello, dear readers :)

I just couldn't imagine that I'd be sitting here at my sister's dining room table, looking outside and it's freezing c-o-l-d!  It's supposed to be 21 overnight.  This is cold.

I haven't even taken many pictures I've wanted because I've been too dang busy.

Remember I was waiting for the surprise from UPS?  Well, I got half the order and have no clue when the other half will arrive.  I hope it's sooner rather than later. Hopefully, I find my camera before I leave to try to take some pxs.

Hope everyone is nice and warm.

Catch you on the flip side.

Until later...

Too Cold

Hello, dear readers:)

Today the temperature is 38 degrees!!!!!  IT'S COLD!

I thought I'd have the UPS truck stopping at the door for the surprise, but alas, nothing yet.  It's been 2 weeks already!

When it finally does arrive, I'll show it to you :)

Until later...putting more covers on the bed.....brrrrrrrrrr

Will keep you posted though, AND I'll have a surprise to show you.  I can't wait.

Hope you are all snugglie and warm.....

Maybe over the weekend I can work on it!

Inkle Shoelaces

Hello, dear readers :)

Today wasn't too shabby, in between golf and football. Heh
So I warped my loom and got ready to do a "Greek key" and it's turning out well.

The finished inkle on the right of cream and lavender is the right length for a pair of shoe laces.  I'm gonna give it a try with the Greek key.
Would you believe I found a great video online for making the alphabet.  I'm going to try it again :)

Hope you all are having a great weekend.

Walk Around Day

Hello, dear readers :)

For a couple of days,  I couldn't get anything going.
I tried a stranded sweater, forget it.  It took me many tries to
get the ribbing right.  It's ready for the trash bin.

UGH!

Then I tried to make the alphabet with my inkle loom.

FORGET IT!

What a mess!!

Cut off the makings of a sweater, cut off the threads for an inkle and am going to start all over again!

So, now I'm going to warp the loom for something workable.
Maybe -  LOL

Try, try again

Hello, dear readers :)

Well, I got the latest inkle off the loom.  I played with it a bit, trying to use a pickup stick and changing the design.  It was kind of interesting.

What I really want to do now is make the alphabet and numbers.  It's not as easy as it looks.  So I wound up with a dark lavender and white crochet cotton.  Oh well, live and learn.

So, I'll continue on this one until I'm done.  What really ticked me off was that I tried to warp it four times and when weaving was under way, I noticed that I did not repeat the pattern.  UGH!
So I guess I'll find a use for this one.  Maybe a small basket.  Not sure yet.

Hope you are all having a wonderful day!
Until later...

Another inklett is born

Hello, dear readers :)

Well, I've set up another inklett to work on.  Here is the key.

Doesn't it remind you of ribbon candy?  Do they still make that any more?
I can remember it was so delicate and delicious as well.

I started this inkle with the intention of not pulling so tightly and when I got a couple of rows going I thought the better of it.
Something to do while watching football games.

I'll see how long it will take me to finish this one.  I feel a basket coming on! LOL

How about a fish fry?

Hello, dear readers :)

Yesterday the weather was just wonderful after our rain storm.  Fantastic comes to mind.  Our huge party had a great time, at least 50 people or more were in attendance.  The fish was out of this world!
Freshly caught by Dottie on the lake.

There were a ton of people there and the homemade desserts were to die for!
We must have gained  10 5 pounds just looking at the food.  LOL
WTG!

PS inkle

Hello, dear readers.

I played with this lavender basket.  I'm still trying to get it it square.

 Now, some observations.

This inkle was about 90 inches in length and 1 inch wide.  I cut  6 strips for the base 7" long.  If I make them about 8" I could have a third row.  I had only snippets of the inkle left after I put on the handle.  So that means I'm going to have to make two inkles either the same or a contrast.  Anything goes :)

I'm thinking that I could put lavender potpourri in some netting.
Not sure yet.  It has many possibilities.

I'm having fun.  Hope you are too :)
Until later...

A tisket, a tasket, how about an inkle basket?

Hello, dear readers :)
We managed to stay dry when the storm hit.  We got 5 inches of rain!  And, boy did we need it.

The next step is  mow, mow, and mow. LOL

So yesterday evening I played with making an inkle basket.

The red and white basket was my first test piece.  The inkle strip was about 1/2 inch and didn't know what I was doing :)  But, that's normal.

So after I put the red/white one together, I started to make a paper prototype.  I measured the width which was .75" and cut my strips for the base at 7".  Now to figure out the weaving part. Hmmm

I still have a ways to go on how to perfect this little basket.

Until later...

Friday, rain, rain and more rain - woopie

Today was another doctor day.  LOL

I guess, it's been doctor's week.  Off to the eye doctors today.

What a day.  Guess what?  I have a bottom eyelash that is growing  inward and gonna grow into my eyeball.  Ever heard of that?  It's not causing any problems at the moment, but my eye doctor will be happy to remove it when it becomes a problem.  No detached retinas or whatever, glaucoma no. New prescription for contacts, ever so slightly changed, she tweaked my contacts and glasses as a back up.  Wonderful!  So now that's done.  I'm tired.

Tomorrow I'll work on something, not too sure what though LOL.  I haven't touched the Sugar Plum sweater yet, except for casting on  for the sleeves.

It's been raining all day long, sometimes really hard.  We're thinking about getting a boat and store it outside when it rains like this.  We need waders.  But, we're not complaining, we desperately need the rain.

Just stuck  chicken breasts, rice, and mushroom soup in a casserole and let it cook. The chicken breasts come out very tender, complete with rice and "gravy" - very good.

Tomorrow we're going to a fish fry party, and hope that the weather is okay!  Have to remember to take my camera!

Until later...

Sugar Plum

Hello, dear readers :)

Today was doctor day.  Oy
You might as well plan the whole day for this, right?

My appointment was at 9:30 am for a full physical.  I had some surprises though - over a certain age, you get an EKG yearly.  Okay!  Woo hoo! They checked my ticker and that didn't deviate from the first one taken last year.

Hmmmmm.  The next surprise after going from head to toe and inside and out, into every nook and cranny, like butter finding its way into an English muffin, you had to answer stupid questions deemed by Medicare!
Have YOU done this?  Unbelievable!

Questions like, do you have carpeting?  How about a night light, do you climb any steps? and so forth.  Then another test to draw a shape and draw a clock.  How about remembering apple,  table and penny.  Then an eye chart?  Do WHAT???

Are you kidding me?????

Then the last thing on the list was SURPRISE!!!  You're getting a flu shot AND a pneumonia shot!  Wow!!!!  Totally mind blowing!

Anyway, because of a good deal of anxiety today,  I didn't get very far on my sugar plum, just the cast on, well, maybe later tonight.  (I lost the px of the cast on, sorry :( )

Until later ...

Sugar Plum Sweater

Hello, dear readers :)

Well, I found a project that needs to be finished.  I started this way back when and it's mentioned in a previous blog.

Just have to finish the sleeves and put on the band.  I don't have much wool left.  I'm going to be hopeful.

This sweater was designed by Patricia Roberts and is called "sugar plum."  Will see how long the sleeves take me.  I've decided to leave them plain.

Have a great Tuesday.
Until later...

Oh me

Hello, dear readers :)

I'm glad it's Monday.

What a mess I had with this latest inkle.  I know now, not to use a rayon thread.
I started off okay and got a few rows woven and then disaster!  Some how I got a black thread caught in the middle of the inkle and I couldn't move it.  Believe me, I tried.

I did manage to save a small piece. Waaaaaa.....okay it's over with.  Back to the drawing board.  I think I'll leave my inkles to another day.  I'll have to find something different to do.

Anyway, until later...
