A Little Rain

Hello to all.
Happy Sunday, a rainy one at that.  I found these flowers, I have no clue, out in the back yard.
Today is football day, of course, LOL.  Am working on a tatted edging today, and hopefully by this evening I'll have a few inches done, enough to post.

Hope your day is going well.  Until later

Good morning everyone.

Yesterday I took some time to surf the web for a pattern of tatted, hens and chicks. I tried to use the needle, but didn't like to "cut off the ball thread."  That really didn't appeal to me.  So I found one decent shuttle to work with.  I wish www.handyhands.com would get the new ones in.  I'm drooling here.  Originally, I thought that I would purchase 2 but I changed my mind, and I'll get 4!

So I've been playing with this pattern.  I am using a teal color # 686 which is a size 20.  I'm not sure how fine I want to go, yet!

So I pulled out an Lizbeth orange color 695 in size 40.  The cream is by DMC perle 12 and DMC perle 8, so I can determine how it's gonna look.

Also on the web were a few articles of how to make your own hanky by punching holes with a "wing" needle.  I may try this later.  The pre-holed hanky is over $5.00 for one.  I have three of these that I've never used.  So we'll see how it goes.

Hope you are all having a wonderful....until later

Happy Birthday Max

Well, today is Max's birthday.  His real name is Maximilian Rudolph Livingston (of all things).
Happy Birthday sweetie, you are 3 years old today.
His birthday meal today was homemade meatloaf and peas.
 He hates regular dog food.
And, he has a mind of his own.

Yesterday since I couldn't get anything going I thought today I would get in one of my craft rooms and start cleaning.  Oh boy, it was like going shopping again.....yikes.  I found such a mess.  So I have been dragging everything out and putting everything into piles so, I CAN finish it.  Found a bunch of quilt tops that need to be put together and quilted and there we are.  Just got out a crib batting and have it hanging ready to be used tomorrow.  Can't say I'll get to it, I guess whatever fits the mood. :)

Until later........

It Was A Walk-Around Day Today

Did you ever have one of those days that anything you did was a total waste?  Today is that day.  Heh.  I could not get anything accomplished.  Tatting forget it.  I must have tried 6 things and just didn't have it in me.  So now, dinner is finished and dishes are in the dishwasher and now I'm going to finish a sock.  Tomorrow I'll show you my sock box.

Until then....have a wonderful evening.

It's a Wonderful Day :)

Well, dear readers, you can find me needle tatting today.

I just went nuts with this piece.  The pattern is by Rachel Colvin Jackson and to see what she's up to head on over to www.pineywoodstatter.blogspot.com.  She has a really nice website.  I enjoy her artistry.

So I finished the first set of instructions.   This is called "Fairy Queen Pendant." Unfortunately I didn't have Valdani Luxury Pearl Silk which I think is a size 12 thread.  Instead I used Valdani size 8 and tried to coordinate the color as to what beads I have.  I can't wait to see the next lesson. (It's not blocked yet, it looks rather katty-wampus)

I hope you are all having a wonderful day, until later....

It Was My Turn Today

Well, my yearly checkup worked out well this time. Everyone needs to get a checkup once a year, that means pap, psa, mammogram, colonoscopy at the proper age, I think 50 for a baseline, UA and your blood work.  Believe me, it's a good thing to do.

DH said I grind my teeth at night, who knew? So we went to our dentist and he created a bite plate and now I don't grind my teeth at night AND I don't snore (believe it)!  It's worth the trip at any cost to get a "once over," and cleaning and to ward off anything else.  Don't wait until you get an abscess.

Blood work was the same as last year with the exception of my thyroid value.  It was running around a 2+ and then jumped to a 4.  So, we are going to watch this. There are several factors that could have caused this.   BP was rather elevated, heh (the white coat syndrome, every time) but after a lengthy chat with my doctor, she took it again, and it was where it should have been.  Phew! It's the only place that I go to  that my BP goes up!  Go figure.

I even had an ekg done!  That was simple enough.  I'm glad I did.  The strip showed I had some irregular "burps" which I put down to taking calcium pills.  So these have been stopped.  I would get this feeling like a light palpitation like a jumpy feeling in the morning and couldn't figure out why...so now I know.

The only thing left to do is to have a bone scan done.  Frankly, I think this such a hype.  Don't get me wrong, I believe in preventative medicine, but please, when you get older you DO shrink up a bit.  So????  I think this is a waste of money and time.  What are they going to do, stop bone shrinkage?  There is no way at my age that I am going to grow new bones, now am I....useless.  But I go, to keep my MD happy.

I probably should not drink strong coffee either because of the palpitations, but I haven't had any recently.  So anyway, DH and I love our coffee any time of day or night and I like it really strong. This could be my first clue, heh.  My first love is a Costa Rican blend coffee, yummmmmmm.  When we were in Costa Rica we couldn't get enough of it.  The second love is Paul Newman's Special Blend.  We got a Kureig coffee machine and we just love it.  DH loves the "raspberry chocolate truffle" and when brewed, it's such a heavenly smell. (I drool).  It's really, really fast and done in a second or two.  We can get two cups from one little container.

Ah me, so I had such good intentions today and tried to get one more necklace done so I can mail the lot.  Here's what I did so far and tomorrow I'll have to send everything overnight, for sure. UGH!  There was not enough time.

Until later....

Doctor Week

You know how it is, there is always a month that you and DH have to make the rounds to various doctors with checkups and pill refills, not to mention the dentist. It's just wonderful, isn't it?  I guess you wonder how you would ever survive without all those pills,  I hate pills, I only have 3 to take, plus vitamins, but I haven't had the vitamins in a month, so I'm curious to see what my blood work reveals.  If it's larger than an aspirin, it's too big for me to take (heh).  God, I hate those horse pills.

Okay, so with that out of the way today for DH, my turn tomorrow, I focused on the last piece of jewelry to make for an upcoming show.  It's curious though, that I found that I like the look of the perle cotton and its sheen.  It just adds a little kick to the piece.  I thought I might try dying some size 10 thread, but that's for another day.  I'm too tired now to mess with more tatting.  It's all ready to join it's place with another piece and some earrings.

This evening will find me curled up in my chair either to finish another sock for my sock box and/or an afghan for DH for Christmas.  I don't know yet.  Knitting vs crochet.

Hope the evening finds you well.  Until later........

It's a Rainy Day Here

I love it when it rains.  But not so, necessarily, when I have a leak in the kitchen window (still). Got out some plastic tubs and lined the sill with 'em.  Will have to get in touch with a roofer to find out exactly where the leak is coming from.

However, on a happy note, I managed to finish my necklace and all I need is a lobster claw clasp and blocking, and then it's finally done.  I have another great idea but will have to design the piece first and I want to use a creamy white thread with pearls and crystals.  I'll need a sketch first.  I might attempt it later, but I worked on this piece all morning long.

This morning, when I went out to gather up the newspaper, I noticed some mushrooms just sprouted over night with the rain.  Yesterday they looked like lollipops.  I have no idea of this species and we'll keep it that way. We'll mow 'em down tomorrow, weather permitting.

Today is also football day....secretly, I'd rather be watching a "chiller" but DH has hogged the remote.

Hope everyone is have a wonderful day.  Until next time...

Experimentation

Hello to all.

Today I was playing with a tatted necklace made with Valdani size 5 thread.  The size of thread works rather well for larger pieces, like a necklace.  I'm still debating how to connect everything without running out of thread.  Valdani is pretty pricey, so I'm trying not to waste it.

Since one ball of the thread has let me make two medallions, I just barely have enough to make 4 split chains.  I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed.

Until later...

And Even More Cleaning

I guess that I unleashed a  cleaning monster.  I found some Barbie doll clothing that I tried to sell on Etsy  a long while ago, but there were no buyers.  I put them away, tucked in a little box with a bar of lavender soap (wonderful smell) and now I'm going to send the lot to our great-grand daughter as a birthday gift.

These are my original designs that I crocheted and/or knitted.
They were made with steel needles sized 000, 0000, 00000.  Imagine that :)
So, for you, a mini fashion show. LOL

Catch you later...this was enough for one day :)

And More Cleaning

Look what I found!  I can't believe it.  Heh

Everything was together where I left off.  I think I bought this LAST YEAR for my sister who is more nuts than me when Halloween rolls around.  I also have a huge tin of flosses that I unearthed with it.  My, my, my.  Looks like I'll have to finish it up, get it framed and be ready for Christmas THIS YEAR!

I guess I'll surprise myself when I dig into a few more bags of "stuff," heh?

Catch you later...

Cleaning

Okay, okay.....I thought cleaning up would be  tedious but finding all this yarn, I figured so what do I want to do with it?

Normally acrylic would stop me because it squeaks when you work with it.  So we needed an afghan and I had a hankering to make one.  And really I might have enough for two.  I pulled off a pattern over the net and just dug in.

Catch you later.....

Reflection

It's been 11 years since 9/11.  Can you believe it?

I really, really, really hate to fly, but we had been offered a free trip to Costa Rica to the little town of JACO. (Pretty nice for a DH salesman).   We had to go to Dallas and pick up a flight that would take us to Miami.  I was a complete mess.  Of all things, I'm sitting in my seat and they were having difficulty trying to close the luggage hatch. (oh hurry up)  That was very nerve racking with a delay of about 30 minutes.  I was a basket case.  Finally, in the air, we went onward to Miami. That wasn't too bad. Landing in Miami, I was a lot better mentally, and actually got seated by a window for the rest of the journey.  OMG!!!  I finally relaxed and took pictures out of my window (really ?)  Soon we landed in Costa Rica.  We reflect.

The next journey was by bus to the other side of the island.  Now, that was an experience.  If you've ever been on a bus in Costa Rica, and look out your window, and you don't see any ground, it's a sheer drop. One lane road littered with pigs and goats.   I wouldn't suggest you take a bus.  Trust me.

After seeing a few sites, we went back to the hotel and some of our group was talking about New York City and what had happened.  We were all stunned.  I can tell you, it was a horrific moment in time.  Everyone rushed to their televisions.  We reflect.

Unfortunately with this happening, our tour was done and since the President declared no planes in or out, we were stuck on foreign soil for extra days.  When the curfew was lifted only a handful of planes were allowed.  Days later we had to take that dreaded bus ride back to get our plane.  Boarding the plane was like a gift.  When we reached Dallas, thank God it was a straight flight, because we couldn't imagine getting off in Miami and renting a car.  We were thankful for small favors.  Everyone on the plane cheered.

When we landed we kissed the ground and left Dallas for home.  Never in our lives have we experienced anything like this. So on September 11th, we go back and visit that trip and what actually happened, the good and the bad.  We honor those who helped the fallen and those that gave their lives and how many families were involved and words really can't express how we still feel about that day.  We reflect.

Happy Sunday

This morning I've finished with the tam.  My first thought was that I hated the pattern, but that's just me.  This tam was designed by Mary Rowe, the author of "Knitted Tams."  I'm glad I made a small investment in her book.  It's chock full of great ideas.  Originally, it came as a kit from Patternworks, then residing in Poughkeepsie, NY with 4 color selections.  The wool was from Jamesion Shetland Jumper 2 ply and OMG, the price they want for a skein now is "right-to-the-moon, Alice."  I'm glad that I have a small stash of this precious wool.  Each color takes on its own glow when mixed with others.  I'll have to order some more colors, eventually, and like www.schoolhousepress.com selections.  This is on my to-do list.

This tam is waiting to be blocked.

The ribbing doesn't thrill me either.  Directions stated 1" of ribbing, (I should have known better) but to me it doesn't balance well (maybe 2").  I also want to use her method of tubular cast on for the ribbing.  It gives it a nice effect.  Usually before blocking I will thread a piece of wool and weave it around the edge of the ribbing before I wet / steam it and then it cool/dry.

What I'd really like is a tam blocker.  In her book, Mary Rowe, has one to make.  It looks simple enough but didn't think wood was appropriate unless it is waterproofed.  Plexiglas might work.  Anyone have ideas where I can find one of these?

Now it's time for football ----- all -----day----- long.
Okay, back to the drawing board.

Catch you later.........

Christmas?

Yep, it's coming up and fast.

So with that in mind, I started a hat yesterday.  It's like getting my sea legs going and remembering how I needed to strand.  I'm using a variety of fingering yarns, one is Pallet from Knitpicks, one is Kaffee's grainy silk, and his wool.  Size 1 an 3 needles for circular knitting.

Catch you later......

Hump Day

Hello to all.  Today, I'm trying to finish a pair of earrings.  So far, so good.  Need the second one then on to block and steam.  What do you think?

In the Ditch

Well gang, I tried the sewing machine again today, forget it.  (For a while,  anyway).    I' m definitely into the tatting mode.  So today I made a fast trip to Hobby Lobby and picked up a few things and played all afternoon.  Maybe tomorrow I'll get to do some housework - yuck.

I''m in a fall/Halloween mood today, so I created a pumpkin from a pattern found in one of my old book edgings and left the stem and curls joining the sort of pumpkins-on-the-vine thing, off and just made three leaves.   I think it turned out cute.

Practice, Practice, Practice

This afternoon I thought  I would get acquainted with my new embroidery sewing machine. I really haven't played with it  much since DH bought it for me.

I'm a great fan of Patrick Lose and Fons & Porter.  I happened to pick this book up at our local grocery store.  There is definite room for improvement on this one.  So, I'll play with the stitches for a while and then do another one.  This item is supposed to be a "Merry Mini" to make your morning coffee merry" in other words, a generous sized coaster.  I really will have to improve my satin stitch and machine quilting stitches.  Who knows where it will take me.  I'll finish making up the binding and follow the quilting instructions and make this one, then see how I can do with another one.  It's a lot of fun for me.  I'm hoping the machine quilting stitch will be awesome.  I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Until then, hope you are having a wonderful day :)

It's Good to be Home

It's great to be back.  Visiting everyone was wonderful, but very tiring.  So with that in mind, I worked on something easy to get back into the swing of things.

I made these earrings today and need to block and stiffen them a bit and then add the findings.  This pattern worked out very well.

Hope you all are having a wonderful day.  Happy Labor Day to all.
