Well, I'm back, after a three week-rush trip.

I have nothing to show you in the form of artistic ability.

My mother is ill and doesn't have too much time left.  She is 90 years old.  Body-wise she is truly, very frail, but her brain is defunct with Alzheimers and Sun-downers.  She has no clue who was who and it's so sad to see.  My sister is her caregiver and she looks like she's aged 5 years from the last time I've seen her.  This is the life we follow down the path....some good....some not so good..  We all have to make decisions and hope we choose the right way to go.  You are born, you live, you age, get sick, and eventually die.  It's a matter of course.  So with this in mind I will show you a large reunion of family to honor my mother and all the family.

We even had the good fortune of spending time with DH's brother and his beloved
Clydesdale's.   A glimpse of life, a blink of the eye,  in a snapshot....

My son, who is a twin, in the white shirt and my cousin's DH.

Some of my cousins, not everyone is shown.  There's a bunch more!

Clockwise, my cousin, Robert, Timmy, who's head I cut off, sorry Timmy,  my Auntie Muriel, my daughter Rachel, and my Mum.

My Mum, and two daughters, Rachel (a twin to my son in the white shirt) and Susan, the eldest.

My brother-in-law in the green, more cousins, and my middle daughter Pamela in the forefront.

DH Jim and his sidekick, Max the wonder dog and his brother Chuck with one of his beautiful Clydesdales, on 40  acres of land.  Nice.

This is a hand-made carriage that the Clydesdale's pull.

And, finally, Max at his best at one of our motels we stopped at.  He even had time to sip on a beer.

A Very Hot Day Grrrrrrrrrrr

Hello, all

Today finds me working with ThreadArt perle 8.  I got all the way up to the very end and made a mess.  I do like the combination of beads.  For some reason the thread didn't slide very well.  I was fighting all the way with it.  Maybe it's the color dye?  I've used this before without any problem. Hmmmm
I might try this with a different thread weight.

I'll have to try it again later!  Until next time....

Second try at px.  Any better?

It's Only Monday?

Hello to all.
Well, you can see I'm still having a little trouble with my shading.  I'll keep trying, though.
This piece is from Marilee Rockley's book, "Tatted Jewelry."  (Lacy Treasure)
What's different about this piece is that it's Valdani perle size 5!  I just love the look and the feel of this one.
So, you guessed it, I was off to my favorite store to get some more junk!

Until next time......hope you're having a great day!

And Now, It's a Wonderful Evening

Okay gang.

I tried the pendant again and just so you get the idea, I've used size 10 cotton with various beads that were randomly selected just so I could see what I was doing.  I corrected the problem that I had and decided that even this would make great earrings.  Ya think?

I'm still doing some disorientation to the picture. Not sure how to correct this.  Maybe tomorrow the light bulb will come on.  Oh well, dinner has been in the oven and it's almost done.  The golf game is almost over with so that means we will eat.  Yay!!!!!

Until next time.....

It's Still A Wonderful Day

Hello, again!

I'm obsessing.

I can't leave it alone.

Sunday dinner will be a little late today.

I'm having too much fun!

Besides going online to Marilee Rockley's website, I did purchase her two books.  They are enchanting.  "Boutique Tatting" is just a beautiful book.  The book I'm using at the moment is "Tatted Jewelry" where you can find the earrings I'm working on - Carnival.  Both her books are very easy to read and there's plenty of special techniques. So, as I was working with the earrings, I turned the pages and found the "Lacy Treasure Pendent."  I just had to try it. Of course!

Had some Omega thread that was just hanging around so I gave it a try.

It's really cool how it's made.  There's room for some beads, but I thought I would just run through the directions.  I realized that it's upside down...drat...sorry.  But you can see that the loop holding the paperclip is not correct.  Somehow I got it attached to a wrong loop.  The loop is supposed to come out of the center and will hold a finding.  It also uses a ribbon to go around the neck, but I think I'm going to use split rings for mine.  Sooooo there's much more improvement to get it right.  This thread is a size 10.  I thought maybe I would go to a 5, but I'm not sure yet.  So between the earrings and the pendent I will continue to play.  DH is watching his golf channel which gives me an excuse to I said, dinner will be late :)

A Wonderful Sunday

Thoughts for this morning.

Well, this is getting interesting.  I've made my third earring so it takes its place alongside the others.  By the way the pattern is by Marilee Rockley at  Excellent lessons on her site.

I'm not sure about the photo though.  I have to figure out how to get the shadows out of there.  I'll have to play with my program a bit more, heh.  Second view.

Okay, do you see much of a difference in size?  I really can't.

The first earring is Valdani perle 8.  I'm  not very happy about this one....I made the chain too long, I think.  The green one, I like the best.  The thread is a perle 8 from ThreadArt.  It was smooth to work with and I think that the beads really enhance the piece. It's like a DMC perle 8.  The third (beige one) is Lizbeth size 20 and I don't like my choice of beads.  They really don't do anything for me.  I think that the fancy beads with sparkles work much better.

I also found that when I use my shuttle, it takes about 80 wraps of thread, so basically for two we are talking about 160 wraps.  I'l have to see what the measurement is in inches.  For sure, one ball with a lot left over for another pair.

So with this in mind, that all three are approximately the same size, it really doesn't matter which thread I use.  I'm now thinking about Christmas!  I'm going to try some red and green threads with beads to see how I like that.  First I need to finish the green earring so it has its mate.

Hope you all are having a wonderful morning...stay tuned, until later.....:)

A Better Shot

How is this?  Much better, ya think?  I even impressed myself.  So this is the ThreadArt green, perle 8 earring.  Now that I know how to show you what I'm working on, I should not have any problems.  Hopefully, maybe, oh my goodness:  I hope I can do it again!  LOL

It Was Fun!

You bet. Today was fun, fun, fun.

I took a quick trip to Michael's today and fortunately for me, I hit a sale day.  I found some good stuff this time.  More than I can show you. Heh

Now, I redid this earring so that I'm using "ThreadArt" size perle 8 green.  I'm comparing it to Valdani, also a perle size 8.  Valdani is a little thicker than ThreadArt.  I'm not sure what kind of effect that I like best.  So the next earring I'm going to use Lizbeth 20 thread and then on to a 10.  It depends upon what the tatter likes and what the outcome is, I guess.

I again apologize for this shot.  I've got to come up with a way to get this much better.  I like the green tone myself.  Tomorrow I'll try to get a better shot. Okay?

Until then....have a wonderful evening.

Another Venue

Hello to all!

Today has found me focusing on a pair of earrings.  The pattern was created by Marilee Rockley and can be found at  She makes wonderful tatted jewelry.  I have attempted several times to do this already.

I shuttle tatted with beads on the shuttle instead of the ball, something I had not done yet.  It's pretty cool how it works.  The thread is size 8 Valdani color H210.  It felt nice as I was working with this, but then again I also tried Lizbeth.  I think the Lizbeth thread is much more stable, but I'll find out as I go about tatting Ms. Rockley's pattern.

I apologize for the poor quality of the px, I'm in need of a new camera.  :(  So, anyway, I'm playing with this today.  I may have to take a trip to HobbyLobby and Michaels for some more beads and some jumper rings.

Hope you are having a great Saturday, until later......................

Hello, readers.

After my finger fiasco, I thought I'd give my fingers a rest for a week.  So today I began cleaning out my craft room or messy room (it really needs it).  I know that it needs to be cleaned and weeded of "stuff" - I'm sure, dear readers, you have an area similar to mine?  I'm sure yours is not as bad as mine either.  I think I could go shopping in my room and it would take me all day to get out the door. Heh

It's amazing what you find when you start digging in boxes, plastic tubs, cloth sacks and brown paper bags.  I kid you not. I dug out one box and found this quilt.  It's called Morning Dove with a finished size of 19"x19" and the kit contains PRE-CUT shapes!! The funny thing is that the receipt was in the package along with some hand piecing that I had started.  It was purchased on March 1, 2002.  Yikes!  So you just know that I have a bunch more of stuff that's just begging to be finished.  2002???  I'm sooooo bad.

Would you believe that if I am missing a piece or lose a piece on this baby, I can contact the shop and they will "gladly send a replacement.?"  Ya think?  2002? Heh.  The quilt shop is at  Not sure if they are still in business, I haven't looked yet.  Now, I must say, since it's a very small "quilt"  it really is wonderful that it's all pre-cut.  Yay, yay......

So now what I have to do is FINISH IT!!!!!!

Along with this finding, I unearthed another unfinished quilt (I'm ashamed to say).  I'll have to take a picture of this as well.  It's kinda big.  I haven't found the rest of it yet and when I do, I'll finish that.  Or, if I find another gem before finding it, I'll finish that.  Makes sense?  Heh!

Hope you are all enjoying your day, until next time..............

Happy Sunday. (I think)

Hello readers!

Well, it was another awfully hot day today.  Hopefully some rain may come this way, but we won't hold our breath.

Yesterday I was working with a nice, extra sharp needle and dropped it on the floor.  Since I didn't have my glasses on, I went to pick it up by grabbing the needle, sharp side to my forefinger and thumb.  OMG!!!!  It went in quite deep and immediately drew blood.  I didn't think I needed 911 so I ran some cold water over it and held a Kleenex to stop the flow.  That went well, and didn't think it was something to worry about.

This morning,  my finger had swelled up and looked like a sausage.  It was nice and red and it felt like it had a fever.  Now, I've had a recent tetanus shot, so that was no problem.  I just went on my way and picked up all my stitching supplies. That was it!

Years ago, I was told that if you get a really bad sunburn you use Maalox and crushed aspirin.  You do NOT ingest the mixture, you apply it to your skin.  It takes out the heat and redness from your skin, soooo.

If this is the case, I tried taking a couple of aspirin.  I did not swallow them, but made them gooshy in a small amount of water and applied it to my finger.  (didn't have any Maalox)  I really think it helped.  It's not as red as it was this morning but it's a little warm yet and where I punctured myself it's a little sore.

BUT....two weeks ago I was tatting and I have a crochet hook that is super tiny and very, very sharp.  Well, you guessed it.  While trying to pass the thread through I jabbed myself in the SAME spot!  It was like a fish hook just locked itself into my skin.  My God did that hurt....try to get that sucker out....OMG!!  I almost had to ram it through the other side to get it out.  Are you ready to pass out now?

So now two ways to make your finger sore for sure.  I'm going to leave the tatting and the stitching alone for a while.  I'm going to go back to finishing some socks.  Do you think I can do some damage with wooden, double pointed needles?  I hope not.

I hope you all enjoyed your day.  Until next time.....

Getting There

Hello to all.  Happy Saturday!

Today I finally finished the tatted rice bag.  You can find the instructions at  She has a wonderful collection of free patterns as well as her beautiful artistic endeavors.  I used Thread Art perle cotton 8 that you can find on sale, I believe today yet, at  I used about 3/4 of the spool to make this.  The spool is 75 yards/10 grams.  The tatting measures 5" across before blocking and I'll be ready to block it later. Just an observation, I wound the shuttle (Lacis) a little plumper than normal and I made it all around.

I really liked the little pattern so well, I started another one :)  I'm also using squares of fabric that came as a pre-cut series and bundled,as the base to hold the potpourri.  Not too sure how I'm going to do this yet.  I think I'm going to have to crunch or smash the bag of lavender so it will be a powder consistency. Has anyone done this?

The yellow thread is from and size 20 Lizbeth. This thread makes a nice, crisp finish. Barbara is soon going to have new shuttles on her site sometime in the fall.  I can't wait.  I've tried a lot of shuttles and the ones with the bobbins all seem to slip on me.  They don't hold the thread well.  Looking forward to purchasing a few!

Anyway, last night I worked on the mauve/rose whatever sock color it is and got a little bit more done.  Maybe I can finish the first one tonight.  It gets lonesome without it's mate. LOL

Hope you are having a wonderful day today and enjoying what you like to do.  Until next time........

Hot Again

Dear Readers, well today was another very hot day. Nothing to show for today in the way of crafting,
sorry  :(

We had our breakfast at 11:00 am and off we went out for the day (believe me, it was HOT)!

We previously made reservations to have  lunch at Cheddars with friends and it was lovely. It was nice talking to them and very relaxing.   By the time we got home, we were very tired, due to the heat and didn't really want to do anything more with the day.  LOL  We had our fill of onion rings, and chicken tenders, until we were bursting at the seams!

In between, I made a detour today to have all my hair cut off.  YIKES  They had a big fit at the salon, everyone came over to examine and/or pet my hair or stand there and make remarks on how long it was and couldn't believe I wanted it cut.

It was time.

At 65 years of age with a braid hanging down to my butt is not the impression I would like to have with anyone, any more. it went. I needed a change.  Drastic yes.  It either has to be very short or very long.   I have no patience in doing hair....wash and go with a short do or a long do that you can twist up.

She first washed and creamed, etc.  Then they all had a fit, again.  Really?  She then put my hair in a banding and off it went, several snips, it was done and placed in a baggy which was donated to JC Penny's for hair pieces and wigs for those women who need some help due to their cancers.

I was very happy to donate my hair for a good cause.  I never knew that my hair, which was  all wrapped up in a knot, was in ringlets.  I said goodbye and just went on.  I was told that Locks of Love only accepted a certain length of hair. WRONG, CHARL.  They accept any length at Penny's.

In the morning I'll probably get out of bed and have imagined this all. LOLOL Well, it's done and over with.  I can ditch the soft rollers and all that mess and just wash and

Hope you are all having a wonderful evening.

Until next time....
