Well, Max decided to soak up some sun this afternoon (he wouldn't wear his sun glasses or his hat) while Mom is busy with the "new" center for the Burda butterflies.  He just loves to cuddle.  And, guess what?  I did finish the center motif (the picture shows it almost done).  Surprisingly, it went rather fast.  It must have been because I've been making numerous centers.

So for your viewing pleasure, my picture for the center motif  shows that it's almost finished.  But it's done!

Ah, it kinda looks like a spider at rest, eh?  Talking about making split rings, when you tat split rings your hand is in a "dead spider" position to do the other side of the ring, so I guess it's appropriate.  I did notice that the motif looks white because of the sun, but it's not!  It's Lizbeth size 10 color light mocha brown, 690.

Now, I must put it away, get some dinner started, grab a shower and hit the bed.  Tomorrow will be another day and later in the day I"ll begin row 2!

Burda butterfly pattern

Okay it is Sunday, already.  I have wanted to make a Burda tatted pattern for my table.  I 've been concentrating on how this is put together.  The original pattern was in German and the translation is not that good (at least, for me-they don't make sense so I am following the diagram).  Anyway, I have already gone through one of my best balls of Lizbeth thread size 10, stupid me, and then got smarter and switched to a lesser brand and continued on, just for practice. (I just ordered a few more balls, just in case.)  Bless - hours and hours of tatting, trying to put everything where it belongs and figuring out if I have to reverse the rows or not.   Rows 1-3 were okay, but the 4th starts a butterfly.  This just made me nuts!  However, I think I'm ready to begin the final version.

What you are looking at is the center motif on the left and the second row calls for split rings (this took me forever to learn how to do.)  I can do it, but I can't use my picot gauges to make the second side perfect.  Okay, I'll forgive myself and get on with it, right?   Let's get after it :)

Until next time .....

No pictures today :)  I've been working steadily on the Burda pattern, AND I started another one using the Lizbeth thread!  I have 5 balls, but was advised I might need more.  That's why I'm working with a cheaper thread to try and get out the bugs first.

AND!!!! One of my teeth in the back broke, so 3 weeks ago, I went to the dentist and was waiting for my crown to come in...I had an appointment to fit the cap.  AND then the tooth next to it , I cracked the filling.....OH ME!  Then after lunch, I felt like something was "caught" AND I used a pick to try and get it out AND I popped out the filling!!!!  Now I have to go back to the dentist and hopefully, he can save this old tooth! OH ME! lol

To make me do the happy dance, I received my order from Amazon, a trilogy.  The author is Suzanne Collins, and the books are "Mockingjay, Catching Fire, and the Hunger Games," and I can't wait to begin.  I love books.  So I"ll read a little tonight and give my hands a rest.

More pictures coming!
Happy Crafting :)

Is it a bird? A plane?

DH's birthday was this month and his son sent him this gift.  He was down in Cedar Key, Florida, and walked into an art store.  He said it was like winning the lotto when he saw this item.  He bought it from a "starving artist!"  It's made of wood and painted up pretty nice.  No metal on the ends, neither head nor tail, to indicate it might be a bottle opener?  It will be hung with the rest of the bird houses and wind chimes.

If anyone can think of what this is to be used for?  Or, just a piece of art work to admire?
We would love to know. LOL

Too funny :)

Have a great day crafting. :)

Butterfly doily from Burda

This was very interesting.  This is from Burda, doily, with butterflies.  The first round went okay and so did the second.  However, looking at the picture and comparing it to the diagram, it didn't look right.  So throughout the book there are references to this pattern and one says make two split rings, and the other states one, and if you look at the actual model, it's two.  I have no idea what I'm going to meet on the next round.

This particular piece I'm working with is DMC Traditions, color 5109.  Not too shabby.  I originally wanted to make it with my favorite Lizbeth thread, but I'd like to work out the bugs first.

Any comments about the pattern?

It was a fussy, fussy day!

OH my, what a mess.  I have been wanting to make this doily and it calls for split have been practicing and practicing and FINALLY, managed to do it.  So I started the pattern, and what would you believe????  Now it calls for split CHAINS!!!! OMG!  So now I'm stuck.  Am giving it a rest for the night and gonna sleep on it.....will have to explore how to do this.  Sorry there's no px.  See you tomorrow!

A little sunshine

We finally got some sunshine!  My camera works better in natural light, and maybe it's time to upgrade to a better one, hmm?

This is a Christmas ornament for this coming Christmas and it will come faster than last year!  I found the center decoration in Michaels in the junk section.  I wish I could have bought all they had, because they are really a good, sparkling accent.  The thread used, my favorite, is a size 10, Lizbeth color 671, and the design I chose is from Handy Hands booklet, "Embellishing with Edgings," edging number 7.  I opted to use the shuttle with this one.

I really enjoy ordering from because they are the fastest shop on earth to speed your order, you receive it practically over night.  WTG!  I keep trying to submit some color combinations and if they select them, you win 25 balls of thread!  I selected a combination that would have matched my decor.  I would love to make a tablemat center for my dining room table. (But I haven't been that lucky, LOL and maybe you will!)

Socks, yes, socks!  This is my be all, to end all. I really love making socks, next to tatting.  But then I always have other projects going at the same time.  This sock is made with pattern, "The Sock Pattern to End All Sock Patterns," and it basically makes between a 7 and 1/2 and 8 sized sock based on 56 stitches and size 2 double pointed needles (for me ).  Her site is wonderful.  I hope you will visit Anne and David.

I like to continue down the cuff with a 2x2 ribbing because when you reach the heel and continue to the toe, the ribbing seems to pull in the stitches and sit nicely on the top of the foot.  It's scrunchy!  The wool I am using here is called Cadenza, 80% superwash merino wool and 20% tussah silk....just yummy, by Estelle.  The color is 962 which is like a cafe mocha brown and light cream.  I like how it makes the stripes.  It's not too bold nor too weak.  These make up really quickly.  When I get a bunch of socks made I put them into a plastic container with a bar of lavendar soap. Oh, the smell when you open the box, the socks smell divine!

For my third entry for today, I am working on a secret project for Christmas, but I'm not ready to show it yet.  I'll give you a hint, it's dark olive green....and I'm using hand dyed, yummy laceweight wool.  More to come on this.

I'd better get going and get dinner started.  Tonight will be stuffed peppers, with stuffing, tomatoes, fresh green peppers.  Add a baked potato with sour cream and YUM!

Catch you later, happy crafting! :)

Nothing new

For today, I haven't taken any pictures yet, but I'm trying to finish up a few things to show you and some new things I've started already for Christmas!  Hopefully, I'll have some decent outside light to take the pxs.
Until then :)

Rain, rain, go away

Today was a dreary day.  It poured here about 3 a.m. and really got windy.  I believe tomorrow we're supposed to have more rain.  We really need it, so I'll be quiet.  No pictures today.  I'm still working on the "daffodil" and I'm almost through.  I really like how it's working out and I just love making the border for this.  So much so, I'm going to do it in another color, but haven't decided yet.  There's too many colors to choose from at !
Well, until tomorrow...happy crafting.

Sunday, January 8, 2012

I found this first round at Rachel Colvin Jackson's site, at the pineywoods.  I"m waiting for the second round.  I used size 10 crochet cotton and a shuttle.  I'm stumped for the next row.  I must have wasted a lot of time trying to make the second round, to no avail.  Ach!  So, hopefully, I will be able to get the second round tomorrow.

Still have a small knot on my head where the trunk of the car hit me....I'm glad it wasn't too bad, it could have been worse!

Today we had a nice leisurely day.  Breakfast was at IHop, which consisted of senior french toast for me and a kind of medley with meat, eggs, tomato, peppers, all on a bed of hash brown potatoes for DH.  Coffee was just wonderful!  Then on to the football games for the day and waiting in the wings is a crockpot (started at 6 am) with a pork roast and veggies....YUM.  We haven't had that yet, so we are anticipating this to finish out our evening.

Happy crafting :)

Stuff and Nonsense

Hello to all!  This weekend started off with a bang!  I tried to get some housework done and then headed to the grocery store.  Was in the process of putting the stuff in the trunk and when that was done, went to close it, and "BAM" it hit me smack in the head.  I thought I was going to see stars but was lucky.  I thought about having an intercranial bleed, I don't think that was the case. But I rushed home, put the groceries away and went for the idea of grabbing some ice and applying it to my head.

Unfortunately, I forgot that we don't  have an ice maker that works, since we don't have a good enough pressure, so I wound up with the next best thing, a frozen medley of vegetables in a bag and applied it.  The dog must have thought I went round the bend.  Maybe I did, but I really needed the ice.  That will teach me, right?

So today, I started working to finish my daffodil doily and hopefully I will by tomorrow.  DH wants to watch football later, and I treated myself to TWO Harry Potter cds that I will watch in peace. LOL

I cooked up some butter beans for dinner with some nice fresh dark bread and butter.  That should keep us happy for a while.

Until then, happy crafting!

Over the weekend I will try to finish up a few things and get them posted for your viewing pleasure. Thanks for bearing with me.

It's just nuts. Bringing in the New Year!

I have decided to switch my website to blogspot since my other site had problems with Google Adsense.  I have no idea and they couldn't help me. So, here I am.  This tatted piece is from called "My Mother's Pink Doily."  I worked two rounds and when I began the third round, I just couldn't figure it out.  I have gone back to another piece I was working on, called "Daffodil Doily" and that seems to be working out.  Will take pictures tomorrow.  I'm almost done with it and it's a present for my Mom.

Hopefully, this blogspot will work okay.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  Until next time, happy tatting!
